About Earth That Day
Every day, the air over your town did something it had never done before and will never do again. Almost all of it goes unrecorded by anyone who was there. But it was measured — and the measurements were kept.
What we make
Earth That Day turns one day of that record into something you can hang on a wall. You give us a date and a place. We find the wind, the pressure, the cloud, the snow and the sea ice over that place on that day, and we draw them — the wind as thousands of streamlines following the actual flow, the weather as the isobars that were sitting over the town, the Earth as it looked from orbit with that day’s weather on it.
What comes out is our artistic impression of the imaging and weather data for that date. It is art, made from real measurements, and no two days look the same. Consecutive days look completely different, because the weather was different.
Why it is never a template
Most personalised prints are a stock design with your name dropped into it. Nothing here is stock. The drawing itself changes with the day you choose: a January high over Nebraska is a still, empty sky, and a March storm off Long Island is a wheel of wind filling the whole print. If you order the 4th and the 5th of the same January, you get two different pictures.
How an order works
Nothing is printed the moment you order. Your print is drawn at full resolution from the record for your date, and our staff work through the order from start to finish before it goes anywhere near a printer — the name, the date, the town, the spelling. If it is not right, it does not print.
Then it is printed in the USA on heavy matte stock, or stretched on canvas, or framed, and posted to you free. Most orders arrive within five to eight business days.
Where the data comes from
The wind, pressure, cloud, snow and ice come from the public weather and satellite record, which runs continuously from 1 January 1948 to today. That is why we can draw almost any birthday, wedding or anniversary someone might ask for. We are not affiliated with any agency, and we make no claim that a print is a scientific document — it is a piece of art drawn from the day’s data.
Our promise
If the print is wrong because of something we did, we reprint it free. If it arrives damaged, we replace it. If you are not sure whether a date will look like anything at all, email us and we will draw it and show you before you spend a cent.
